FallTech 7493A Reusable Heavy Duty Chain Anchor for Wood

Grade 80 Chain • Up to 12/12 Pitch
Key Specifications 5/16" Grade 80 Chain 5,000 lb Static Strength Flat to 12/12 Pitch

The FallTech 7493A is a reusable heavy-duty chain anchor engineered for temporary installation on wood roof structures. Two powder-coated steel anchoring plates connect through a 5/16" Grade 80 welded-link chain with a 2-1/4" coated alloy steel D-ring — a flexible, high-strength tie-off system that conforms to flat roofs and sloped pitches up to 12/12. Includes both 16D nails for ridge or field installation and 2-1/2" lag screws for horizontal lifeline use.

Overview

The FallTech 7493A Reusable Heavy Duty Chain Anchor is the flexible, workhorse member of FallTech's wood-deck anchor family. Two 9" x 3" powder-coated carbon steel plates sit on opposite sides of a roof ridge (or anywhere on the field), joined by a 5/16" Grade 80 welded-link chain with a coated alloy steel D-ring at the centre. The bendable plate joiner conforms to flat roofs and sloped surfaces up to 12/12 pitch, making one anchor suitable for nearly every residential and light commercial wood-deck application. The chain design absorbs some impact geometry that rigid plate anchors cannot, and the high-strength Grade 80 chain rating (5,000 lb minimum) matches the OSHA 1926.502 requirement for anchorage connectors. Ships with two fastener kits: 16D nails for standard ridge or field installation, and 2-1/2" lag screws for use in horizontal lifeline (HLL) configurations where fastener withdrawal resistance matters more.

Key Features

5/16" Grade 80 Welded Chain

High-strength welded-link Grade 80 chain rated at 5,000 lb minimum static strength. Grade 80 is a specification grade chain engineered for overhead lifting and fall arrest loads.

Bendable Plate Joiner

The anchoring plates conform to flat roofs and sloped surfaces up to 12/12 pitch. One anchor covers nearly every residential and commercial wood roof angle you'll encounter.

Dual 9" x 3" Anchoring Plates

Two powder-coated carbon steel plates distribute fall arrest loads across a wide area of the roof structure. Pre-drilled for repeatable fastener installation.

Two Fastener Kits Included

Ships with 16D nails for standard roof ridge or field installation AND 2-1/2" lag screws for horizontal lifeline (HLL) applications where higher withdrawal resistance is required.

2-1/4" Coated Alloy Steel D-Ring

Centre connecting D-ring rated at 5,000 lb minimum static strength. Compatible with lanyards, SRLs, and vertical lifeline systems.

Reusable Design

Remove the fasteners and relocate the anchor to the next jobsite. Powder-coated finish resists corrosion between installations, extending reusable service life.

Standards & Compliance Notice

OSHA Compliant — CSA Z259.15 Not Third-Party Certified

The FallTech 7493A is compliant with OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.66 for anchorage connectors, with a 5,000 lb minimum static strength rating across the D-ring, chain, and plate assembly. The manufacturer does not list CSA Z259.15 (Anchorage Connectors) third-party certification on the product specifications. Canadian provincial OHS codes generally require anchor points to either meet CSA Z259.15 or be rated by a qualified professional engineer to support 22.2 kN (5,000 lbs) per worker for fall arrest. The 7493A meets the strength requirement, but acceptance for Canadian fall arrest use is the responsibility of the installing party, a qualified professional engineer, or the site safety officer. For projects specifically requiring CSA Z259.15 certified anchors, choose a CSA-certified alternative from our catalogue.

Applications

  • Residential roof framing, shingling, and re-roofing (flat to 12/12 pitch)
  • Commercial wood-deck roofing projects
  • Horizontal lifeline (HLL) end anchor — use the included 2-1/2" lag screws
  • Temporary fall protection during new-build roof construction
  • Re-roofing crews working across varied residential roof pitches
  • Multi-site roofing operations needing one anchor for multiple roof angles
  • Heavy-duty applications where a rigid plate or hinged anchor is insufficient

How to Choose the Right Wood Roof Anchor

The 7493A is the heavy-duty chain option in FallTech's wood anchor line. The chain design conforms to any pitch up to 12/12 and is the preferred anchor for horizontal lifeline end attachments. If you need a hinged two-plate anchor at a lower price point, choose the FallTech 7410 Hinged Reusable Wood Roof Anchor. For the simplest single-plate flat anchor on low-slope decks, the FallTech 7493B1 Reusable D-Ring Plate Anchor is the compact option. For standing seam metal roofs, see our SSRA1 Standing Seam Roof Anchor. Pair any roof anchor with a CSA Z259.10 full-body harness and a CSA Z259.11 shock-absorbing lanyard or CSA Z259.2.2 SRL.

Compliance & Standards

CSA Status: Not third-party certified to CSA Z259.15. Canadian users must verify acceptance with a qualified professional engineer or site safety officer before use in fall arrest applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 7493A CSA certified?
No. FallTech lists the 7493A as compliant with OSHA 1926.502 and 1910.66 only. It is not third-party certified to CSA Z259.15. The Grade 80 chain, D-ring, and plates all meet the 5,000 lb minimum static strength requirement common to both standards, but final acceptance for use on a Canadian jobsite should be verified with a qualified professional engineer or your provincial OHS authority.
What's the difference between the 7493A, 7410, and 7493B1?
The 7493A uses two plates connected by a 5/16" Grade 80 chain — the most flexible of the three, good for any pitch up to 12/12 and rated for horizontal lifeline use. The 7410 is a hinged two-plate anchor (no chain) that also covers up to 12/12 pitch. The 7493B1 is a single flat plate with a D-ring, best suited for flat or low-slope installations. Choose the 7493A when you need chain flexibility or HLL compatibility.
When do I use the nails vs. the lag screws?
Use the included 16D nails for standard single-worker fall arrest ridge or field installation. Use the 2-1/2" lag screws when the anchor is serving as an end or intermediate attachment for a horizontal lifeline (HLL) system — lag screws provide higher withdrawal resistance than nails, which matters when the anchor carries the dynamic loads of an HLL during a fall event. Always follow the FallTech installation manual for your specific application.
Why Grade 80 chain specifically?
Grade 80 is an overhead lifting grade of alloy steel chain. It has higher strength-to-weight than Grade 30 or Grade 43 chain and is rated for shock loading. Using Grade 80 chain ensures the chain itself meets the 5,000 lb minimum static strength requirement — so no link in the anchor system is weaker than the plates or D-ring.
How many workers can tie off to this anchor?
One worker per anchor point in fall arrest mode. The 5,000 lb static strength rating is for single-person fall arrest. For horizontal lifeline use, the number of permitted workers depends on the full HLL system design and engineered rating — consult the HLL manufacturer's installation manual, not just the anchor specs.
Is the anchor reusable after a fall?
Any fall arrest component that has arrested a fall must be inspected by a competent person following the event. Inspect the chain for stretch, distortion, or link damage; inspect the plates for bending, cracking, or fastener-hole elongation; inspect the D-ring for deformation. If any component shows damage, the entire anchor must be retired and the wood substrate re-evaluated before a replacement is installed.
