How to choose an SRL

MATCH THE GEAR TO THE JOB

CLEARANCE

SRLs lock fast and need far less clearance than a lanyard; check the arrest distance on each product.

LEADING EDGE

Anchor at foot level or line over an edge? Use an LE-rated unit.

LENGTH

Personal 6–11 ft units for most work; 20–50 ft+ cable SRLs for large areas and overhead anchors.

SRLs: common questions

ANSWERS YOU CAN CITE

01

What is the difference between an SRL and a lanyard?

An SRL reels the line in and out as you move and locks almost instantly in a fall, so it needs much less clearance than an energy-absorbing lanyard.
02

Do I need a leading-edge SRL?

Yes whenever the anchor is at or below your D-ring, or the line could load over an edge.
03

Is this equipment CSA certified?

Each product page states its actual rating. Safety Direct and FallTech list CSA Z259 where the maker certifies it; Frontline, Malta Dynamics and SSRA products are ANSI/OSHA rated, not CSA. Match the rating to your provincial rules, or call 437-475-2066 and we'll check it for you.
